Where We’d Stay in Bangkok

Where We’d Stay in Bangkok

If there’s one thing we learned quickly in Bangkok—it’s this:

Where you stay can completely change your trip.

The city is huge, traffic can be unpredictable, and each neighborhood feels like a different version of Bangkok. So picking the “right” area isn’t just about hotels—it’s about how your entire trip flows.

We’ve stayed across a few areas and built itineraries around them, and here’s what we’d genuinely recommend based on real experience—not just what looks good on a map.

Riverside (Best Overall Experience)

This is where Bangkok feels… calmer.

You still get the city, but with space, views, and a slightly slower pace. Plus, being near the river makes getting around surprisingly easy (boats are underrated here).

We personally love this area because it balances everything—culture, comfort, and accessibility.

Where to stay: Hilton Garden Inn Bangkok Riverside
This is a great sweet spot—comfortable, well-located, and right next to ICONSIAM (which you’ll end up visiting more than once). It’s not over-the-top luxury, but it feels easy and reliable.

Why choose Riverside:

  • Close to temples (via boat)
  • Great views and evening vibe
  • Less chaotic than central Bangkok

Siam (Best for First-Time Visitors & Shopping)

If you want everything within walking distance, this is it.

Malls, cafes, restaurants, transport—it’s all connected. You can go hours without needing a taxi, which is rare in Bangkok.

We usually recommend this for shorter trips or first-timers who want convenience over everything else.

Where to stay:  Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok
This is a step up—more premium, quiet despite being central, and directly connected to the shopping district.

Why choose Siam:

  • Walkable area
  • Easy access to BTS
  • Best for shopping + cafes

Sukhumvit (Best for Nightlife & Variety)

Sukhumvit feels like a city within a city.

It’s busy, international, and full of options—from street food to rooftop bars. If you like having choices (and late nights), this area works really well.

We’ve had some of the most spontaneous nights here.

Where to stay: Grande Centre Point Sukhumvit 55
Comfortable, modern, and well-located without being too chaotic.

Why choose Sukhumvit:

  • Best nightlife scene
  • Huge food variety
  • Well connected by BTS

Khao San / Old Town (Best for Budget & Culture)

This area feels completely different from the rest of Bangkok.

It’s more traditional, a bit chaotic, but also full of character. You’re close to temples, street food, and local life.

That said—it’s not for everyone. It can get loud at night.

Where to stay: Riva Surya Bangkok
A great option if you want to stay near the action but still have a bit of comfort and quiet.

Why choose Old Town:

  • Close to major attractions
  • Strong local vibe
  • Budget-friendly options

Silom (Best Balance of Business + Leisure)

Silom surprised us.

It’s a mix of business district during the day and lively spots at night—but not as overwhelming as Sukhumvit.

It’s also really well connected, which makes moving around easier.

Where to stay: SO/ Bangkok
Stylish, slightly edgy, and great if you want something different from standard hotels.

Why choose Silom:

  • Central location
  • Good mix of calm + activity
  • Easy transport connections

Final Thoughts

There’s no “perfect” area in Bangkok—just the one that fits your travel style.

If we had to simplify it:

  • Want balance + views → Riverside
  • Want convenience → Siam
  • Want nightlife → Sukhumvit
  • Want culture + budget → Old Town
  • Want something in-between → Silom

For our recent itinerary, we chose Riverside—and honestly, it made everything smoother. Less stress, better evenings, and easier movement overall.

And in a city like Bangkok, that makes a bigger difference than you’d expect.
