8 Days in Jamaica for Couples: A Romantic Trip from Montreal

8 Days in Jamaica for Couples: A Romantic Trip from Montreal

Jamaica has the kind of warmth that reaches beyond the weather. Music drifts out of open-air restaurants, evenings seem to last longer beside the sea, and even a drive between towns becomes part of the experience. For couples, the island offers a lovely balance of beach time, waterfalls, local food and evenings that feel special without needing to be overly formal.

When we designed this eight-day Jamaica itinerary from Montreal, we did not want the couple to spend every day travelling from one side of the island to another. Jamaica looks compact on a map, but journeys can take longer than expected. The route therefore moves naturally from Negril to Ocho Rios and finishes in Montego Bay, keeping the final night close to the airport.

Where Should You Stay for Easy Access?

There is no single location that provides easy access to everything included in this itinerary. Staying only in Montego Bay would mean long return journeys to Negril, Appleton Estate and Ocho Rios. For eight days, the most comfortable arrangement is three nights in Negril, three nights in Ocho Rios and one night in Montego Bay.

In Negril, we recommend staying along Norman Manley Boulevard beside Seven Mile Beach. This gives you direct beach access, plenty of dining choices and a straightforward taxi ride to the West End cliffs. Skylark Negril Beach Resort is a stylish couples-friendly option with Miss Lily’s restaurant onsite. For something more intimate and romantic, consider Catcha Falling Star or Rockhouse Hotel on the cliffs.

In Ocho Rios, staying close to Main Street provides convenient access to Dunn’s River Falls, Mystic Mountain and local restaurants. Hibiscus Lodge works particularly well for this itinerary. It has tropical gardens, ocean views, breakfast, an onsite spa and the Almond Tree Restaurant. Couples wanting a luxury all-inclusive alternative could consider Jamaica Inn or Sandals Royal Plantation.

For the final night in Montego Bay, the Hip Strip around Gloucester Avenue and Jimmy Cliff Boulevard is the most practical location. It is close to Doctor’s Cave Beach, restaurants and Sangster International Airport. Deja Resort offers a more affordable all-inclusive stay, while S Hotel Montego Bay is the better choice for a polished and romantic final evening.

Flying from Montreal to Jamaica

Air Canada operates flights between Montréal-Trudeau International Airport and Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. For the proposed December 2026 journey, the itinerary uses a nonstop morning flight departing Montreal at approximately 8:35 am and arriving in Montego Bay at approximately 1:25 pm. The return journey leaves Montego Bay at approximately 2:20 pm and arrives in Montreal at around 6:50 pm.

Flight schedules can change, so travellers should confirm the flight numbers and final departure times before booking hotels or transfers. Current fare availability can be checked directly through Air Canada.

Day 1: Montreal to Negril

The journey begins with the nonstop flight from Montreal to Montego Bay. After immigration and luggage collection, meet a pre-arranged driver for the journey to Negril, which usually takes between 90 minutes and two hours depending on traffic.

After checking into Skylark or another Seven Mile Beach hotel, keep the first evening simple. Walk along the beach, swim if there is enough daylight and watch the sunset from the sand. Miss Lily’s at Skylark is an easy choice for the first dinner, with Jamaican flavours, grilled seafood, jerk dishes and a lively beachfront atmosphere.

Day 2: Seven Mile Beach and Rick’s Café

Begin with breakfast at Miss Lily’s before spending the morning on Seven Mile Beach. There is no need to plan too much here. Swim, walk along the shoreline and enjoy the slower pace that makes Negril such a good first stop.

After a light beachfront lunch, take a glass-bottom boat and snorkelling trip to explore the reef. Later in the afternoon, travel by licensed taxi to Rick’s Café on the West End cliffs. Arrive early enough to find a comfortable viewing spot before sunset. Rick’s is open daily from midday and does not charge an entrance fee, although food and drinks are additional. Rick’s Café information

Dinner can be enjoyed at Rick’s, but we would also consider 3 Dives for a more relaxed jerk dinner or Rockhouse Restaurant for a quieter couples evening. Agree on the return fare and collection point with the driver before leaving the hotel.

Day 3: Appleton Estate and YS Falls

Arrange a private driver for a full-day journey into Jamaica’s south-western countryside. Ask the hotel for an early breakfast box because Miss Lily’s does not open until 7:30 am.

The first main stop is the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience, where visitors learn about the estate’s history, production process and different styles of Jamaican rum. Lunch can be taken at the estate restaurant before continuing to YS Falls.

YS Falls offers a series of waterfalls surrounded by greenery, with natural pools and areas for swimming when conditions allow. Water shoes are useful, and a change of clothing should be kept in the car. Return to Negril before evening and reserve dinner at Ivan’s Restaurant, where the cliff-front setting works beautifully for a romantic final night in Negril.

Day 4: Negril to Ocho Rios via Martha Brae

Check out after breakfast and travel east with a private driver. Rather than treating this as a simple transfer day, stop at Martha Brae for a bamboo rafting experience. A local raft captain guides each raft along the river, making it a peaceful break between the two resort areas.

Continue towards Ocho Rios and stop for jerk chicken, pork, festival and traditional sides at Scotchies in Drax Hall. From there, it is a relatively short drive to Hibiscus Lodge.

Spend the rest of the afternoon by the hotel pool or overlooking the sea. Dinner at the onsite Almond Tree Restaurant keeps the evening relaxed after a long travel day. Request an outdoor table if available.

Day 5: Dunn’s River Falls and Mystic Mountain

Leave after breakfast for Dunn’s River Falls. Visiting earlier in the day generally makes the experience more comfortable. Wear water shoes and carry only what you need, as the climb involves moving through flowing water and over limestone terraces.

Continue to Mystic Mountain for the rainforest chairlift, bobsled and Raggamuffin ride. The combination makes this the most active day of the trip, so lunch at Mystic Mountain is convenient before returning to the hotel.

For dinner, Evita’s offers Jamaican-Italian cooking in a hillside setting above Ocho Rios. Arrange transport in both directions rather than attempting to walk back after dark.

Day 6: A Slower Day in Ocho Rios

After two busy days, this morning is deliberately left open. Enjoy breakfast at Hibiscus Lodge, spend time beside the pool and walk through the hotel gardens.

For lunch, head to Miss T’s Kitchen on Main Street. Its colourful garden setting and home-style Jamaican dishes make it one of the most enjoyable local meals in Ocho Rios. Curried goat, jerk chicken, oxtail, fish and vegetarian dishes are all worth considering.

Return to Hibiscus Lodge for a couples massage at Lé Mer Day Spa, followed by a quiet afternoon overlooking the sea. For the final Ocho Rios dinner, dine at Almond Tree or try Stush in the Bush if you are comfortable arranging a longer private transfer and booking well ahead.

Day 7: Ocho Rios to Montego Bay

Have breakfast and leave Ocho Rios by private transfer for Montego Bay. The drive generally takes around two hours, but additional time should be allowed for traffic.

Check into S Hotel if the budget permits. Its location gives direct access to Doctor’s Cave Beach and avoids paying separately for day passes while staying elsewhere. Spend the afternoon swimming, relaxing by the pool and enjoying the view from the Sky Deck.

Lunch at Vibes Bar & Grill keeps the afternoon easy. For the final dinner, reserve Rocksteady at S Hotel. The restaurant serves dinner on selected evenings, is adults-only and requires a reservation, so its operating night should be confirmed before finalising the itinerary. S Hotel dining information

If S Hotel is outside the preferred budget, stay at Deja Resort instead and enjoy its included facilities rather than purchasing two expensive S Hotel day passes.

Day 8: Montego Bay to Montreal

Enjoy an unhurried breakfast and one last swim before checking out. Sangster International Airport is only a short drive from the Hip Strip, but international travellers should still arrive around three hours before departure.

Have lunch at the airport before boarding the nonstop flight to Montreal. After arriving at Montréal-Trudeau and collecting the luggage, travellers can have a quick meal at Paramount Fine Foods in the public departures area before continuing home. The restaurant is open around the clock, which makes it useful if immigration or baggage collection takes longer than expected. Montréal-Trudeau airport information

Getting Around Jamaica

Private transfers are the most comfortable option for this itinerary. They allow luggage to remain in the same vehicle and make it easier to include places such as Martha Brae and Scotchies during the journey between hotels. For short evening journeys in Negril and Ocho Rios, use taxis arranged by the hotel or another licensed operator.

The key transfers should be reserved before departure, particularly Montego Bay Airport to Negril, the Appleton Estate and YS Falls day trip, Negril to Ocho Rios, and Ocho Rios to Montego Bay.

Travey Club Insights

This itinerary combines three different sides of Jamaica without making the holiday feel like a race. Negril provides the beaches and sunsets, Ocho Rios brings waterfalls, rainforest and adventure, and Montego Bay offers a comfortable final night close to the airport.

The route will suit couples who want more than an all-inclusive resort but still value comfort and time to relax. The most important decision is not trying to see the entire island from one hotel. Using three carefully selected bases creates a smoother journey and gives each part of Jamaica enough time to feel distinct.

At Travey Club, we design trips around how you want to travel. We bring together the route, stays, experiences, transport and local dining ideas, while leaving you free to make each booking your way.
