Where to Stay in Delhi: A Travey Club Guide to the Best Areas & Hotels
Choosing where to stay in Delhi honestly makes a huge difference to your trip.
Delhi is massive, busy, and completely different depending on which neighborhood you stay in. Some areas feel modern and polished, others feel historic and chaotic, while some are surprisingly calm and green despite being right in the middle of the city.
After exploring different parts of Delhi ourselves, we realized there isn’t really one “best” area — it depends on the kind of trip you want.
Here are the areas we’d personally recommend staying in, along with hotels that genuinely stand out for each location.
Connaught Place — Best for First-Time Visitors

If it’s your first time in Delhi, this is probably where we’d tell you to stay.
Connaught Place sits right in the center of the city, which makes getting around much easier. You’re close to markets, restaurants, cafés, metro stations, and many of Delhi’s main attractions.
What we liked most was the balance. During the day it’s busy and energetic, but in the evenings it becomes surprisingly enjoyable to just walk around and explore.
It also feels more approachable compared to the intensity of Old Delhi.
Why Stay Here:
- Central location
- Easy transport connections
- Great restaurants & nightlife
- Ideal for short stays
Recommended Hotel:
The Connaught, New Delhi – IHCL SeleQtions
This hotel felt like a really comfortable base for exploring Delhi. It combines heritage-style design with modern comfort, and the location is genuinely hard to beat.
What stood out to us most was how convenient everything felt from here — especially after long sightseeing days.
Hauz Khas — Best for Cafés, Nightlife & Younger Vibes

Hauz Khas feels like Delhi’s creative side.
The area mixes old ruins, lake views, boutique stores, rooftop cafés, bars, and art spaces all in one neighborhood. Compared to other parts of Delhi, it feels younger, trendier, and more relaxed.
We ended up spending much more time here than expected because it’s one of the few places in Delhi where you can slow down a little and just enjoy the atmosphere.
If you enjoy café culture, nightlife, or stylish neighborhoods, this is a great area to stay.
Why Stay Here:
- Trendy cafés & bars
- Great nightlife
- Walkable atmosphere
- More relaxed than central Delhi
Recommended Hotel:
LetsBunk Poshtel & Suites – Hauz Khas
A stylish, social stay that fits perfectly with the vibe of the neighborhood. It’s modern, comfortable, and close to the cafés and restaurants that make Hauz Khas popular.
Good option if you want something lively without going full luxury.
Aerocity — Best for Luxury & Convenience

Aerocity surprised us.
Usually airport districts feel boring, but this area feels modern, clean, organized, and surprisingly upscale. If you have an early flight, a short Delhi trip, or simply want a more comfortable and polished experience, Aerocity works really well.
It’s also one of the cleanest-feeling parts of the city.
You won’t get the historic Delhi atmosphere here, but you will get convenience, good hotels, and excellent restaurants.
Why Stay Here:
- Close to airport
- Modern luxury hotels
- Cleaner & quieter
- Great for business or short stays
Recommended Hotel:
This was easily one of the most stylish hotels we came across in Delhi. Modern interiors, excellent food, spacious rooms, and a much calmer atmosphere compared to the rest of the city.
Perfect if comfort is a priority.
Old Delhi — Best for Culture & Street Food

Old Delhi isn’t for everyone — but if you want the most intense and authentic side of the city, staying here can be unforgettable.
The streets are chaotic, crowded, noisy, and full of life 24/7. You’ll wake up surrounded by markets, mosques, street food stalls, and centuries of history.
Honestly, we’d only recommend this area if you enjoy immersive travel experiences and don’t mind a bit of chaos.
But for food lovers and photographers? It’s incredible.
Why Stay Here:
- Historic atmosphere
- Incredible food
- Walking distance to major landmarks
- Most authentic Delhi experience
Recommended Hotel:
This hotel feels completely different from modern Delhi hotels. It’s a restored Mughal-style haveli right in the middle of Old Delhi, and staying here feels like stepping back into another era.
One of the most unique stays in the city.
South Delhi — Best for a Relaxed, Local Feel

South Delhi feels greener, calmer, and more residential than central Delhi.
Areas like Defence Colony, Greater Kailash, and Green Park are filled with cafés, restaurants, markets, and tree-lined streets. It feels more like the side of Delhi where people actually live rather than just visit.
If you want a slower pace while still having access to great food and shopping, this is a really comfortable area to base yourself.
Why Stay Here:
- Safer & quieter atmosphere
- Great cafés & restaurants
- Less touristy
- Good for longer stays
Recommended Hotel:
Simple, modern, clean, and well-located. It’s not ultra-luxury, but it’s comfortable, reliable, and fits the South Delhi vibe well.
A good choice if you want value without sacrificing comfort.
Khan Market Area — Best for Upscale Cafés & Walkability

Khan Market became one of our favorite places to spend evenings.
The area feels upscale but not overly flashy. There are bookstores, cafés, restaurants, bakeries, and boutiques all packed into a compact, walkable neighborhood.
Compared to other parts of Delhi, it feels noticeably calmer and more polished.
If your ideal trip includes slow mornings, café hopping, and relaxed evenings, this area works really well.
Why Stay Here:
- Stylish atmosphere
- Great food scene
- Walkable & comfortable
- Excellent for couples
Recommended Hotel:
Probably one of the most luxurious stays in Delhi. Spacious rooms, beautiful design, incredible service, and a much calmer atmosphere than most of the city.
Definitely a splurge — but worth it if you want a premium experience.
Final Thoughts
Delhi changes dramatically depending on where you stay.
Some neighborhoods give you nonstop energy and chaos, while others offer calm cafés, green spaces, and luxury hotels that make the city feel completely different.
Personally, if we were visiting Delhi again:
- We’d stay in Connaught Place for convenience
- Hauz Khas for atmosphere
- Or South Delhi for a slower, more local experience
At the end of the day, there’s no perfect area — it really depends on the kind of Delhi you want to experience.
And honestly, that’s part of what makes the city so interesting.
