Top Activities to Do in Antalya, Türkiye

Top Activities to Do in Antalya, Türkiye

There are some destinations that surprise you the moment you arrive — Antalya was one of them for us.

Before visiting, we expected beaches, resorts, and sunny weather. What we didn’t expect was how effortlessly Antalya blends ancient history, dramatic coastlines, mountain views, and laid-back Mediterranean living into one destination. One moment you’re wandering through Roman-era streets, and the next you’re watching waterfalls crash into the sea before ending the evening at a marina-side restaurant under glowing cliff lights.

After spending a few days exploring the city, here are the experiences we genuinely think are worth your time in Antalya.

Get Lost in Kaleiçi (Antalya Old Town)

If there’s one place that gives Antalya its soul, it’s Kaleiçi.

The old town feels less like a tourist attraction and more like a place you naturally drift through for hours without realizing it. Narrow cobblestone lanes twist between Ottoman houses, hidden courtyards, boutique cafés, and small local shops selling everything from handmade lamps to Turkish sweets.

What we loved most was that there wasn’t a strict itinerary needed here. Some of our favorite moments came from simply wandering — turning random corners, hearing the call to prayer echo through the streets, and stopping for Turkish tea overlooking the marina.

A few highlights you shouldn’t miss:

  • Hadrian’s Gate
  • Yivli Minaret
  • Hıdırlık Tower
  • Antalya Marina at sunset

Our advice? Visit during the late afternoon and stay until evening when the old town begins to glow under warm lights.

Watch the Düden Waterfalls Crash Into the Mediterranean

We’ve seen waterfalls before — but not many that plunge directly off cliffs into the sea.

The Düden Waterfalls were honestly one of the biggest surprises of the trip. Standing near the cliffs while watching the water crash into the Mediterranean below feels dramatic in the best possible way. The sea breeze, mist from the falls, and panoramic coastline views make this one of the most photogenic spots in Antalya.

If you have time, try seeing the waterfalls from both:

  • The cliffside viewpoints
  • A boat tour from the water

Seeing the falls from the sea gives you a completely different perspective.

Spend a Slow Morning at Konyaaltı Beach

One thing Antalya does incredibly well is balance sightseeing with relaxation.

After a packed first day exploring historical sites, Konyaaltı Beach was exactly what we needed. The backdrop here is what makes it special — crystal-clear Mediterranean water with the Taurus Mountains rising dramatically behind the coastline.

Unlike some resort-heavy beach destinations, Konyaaltı still feels local and lived-in. People jog along the promenade, families gather for breakfast, and cafés slowly fill throughout the morning.

We rented sunbeds, swam for a while, then spent longer than expected just sitting by the water with coffee.

Sometimes the best travel moments aren’t activities at all.

Take the Tünektepe Cable Car for the Best Views in Antalya

If you want to understand Antalya’s geography properly, do this.

The cable car ride up to Tünektepe gives you sweeping views of:

  • The coastline
  • The mountains
  • The city skyline
  • The Mediterranean stretching endlessly into the distance

The ride itself is short, but the views at the top are easily worth it — especially on a clear afternoon.

We’d recommend going slightly later in the day when the lighting becomes softer for photos.

Explore the Ancient City of Perge

What surprised us most about Perge wasn’t just how old it was — it was how massive it felt.

Walking through the ancient streets, stadium, baths, and towering columns genuinely makes you stop and imagine what life must have looked like here during the Roman era. Unlike some archaeological sites that feel crowded or overly restored, Perge still feels raw and atmospheric.

Comfortable shoes are essential because the site is much larger than most people expect.

If you enjoy history even slightly, this is absolutely worth adding to your itinerary.

Take a Boat Trip Along Antalya’s Coast

This ended up being one of the most fun days of the trip.

Antalya looks completely different from the water. The cliffs feel larger, the coastline more dramatic, and the Mediterranean somehow even bluer. Most boat tours include swimming stops in hidden bays, music onboard, lunch, and views of the famous sea cliffs and waterfalls.

It’s also one of the easiest ways to slow down and enjoy Antalya without constantly moving between attractions.

Our biggest recommendation:
Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and don’t over-plan the day. The best part is simply being out on the water.

End Your Evenings at Antalya Marina

Every evening in Antalya somehow felt drawn back to the marina area.

As the sun begins to set, the harbor transforms completely. Boats reflect golden light across the water, restaurants fill with people lingering over dinner, and the old stone walls surrounding the marina create an atmosphere that feels both lively and relaxed at the same time.

Some of our favorite dinners happened here — especially long seafood dinners where nobody really wanted to leave.

If you only do one thing in Antalya at night:
Come to the marina just before sunset and stay for dinner.

Final Thoughts

What makes Antalya special isn’t just one landmark or activity — it’s the balance.

You can spend the morning exploring ancient ruins, the afternoon swimming in the Mediterranean, and the evening eating fresh seafood beside a historic marina — all within the same day.

It’s the kind of destination that feels easy to enjoy without trying too hard.

And honestly, that’s probably why we liked it so much.
