Where to Stay in Taipei: Best Areas & Hotels According to Your Travel Style
One thing we realized very quickly in Taipei is that where you stay completely changes the kind of trip you’ll have.
The city feels incredibly diverse depending on the neighborhood. Some areas are energetic and neon-filled until midnight, while others feel slow, creative, and almost residential despite being in the middle of the city.
After exploring Taipei across different districts, these are the areas we genuinely think are the best to stay in — depending on the kind of traveler you are.
And more importantly, these are the hotels we’d personally recommend after researching what actually delivers a good Taipei experience, not just a good room.
Ximending — Best for First-Time Visitors

If it’s your first time in Taipei, this is honestly the easiest recommendation.
Ximending feels alive at all hours. The streets are packed with food stalls, cafés, shopping lanes, street performers, and late-night energy. It’s the kind of neighborhood where you walk outside at 11 PM looking for bubble tea and somehow end up exploring for another two hours.
What we loved most is how convenient it feels.
You’re connected to almost everything:
- MRT access
- night markets
- shopping
- food
- late-night snacks
- easy airport transport
It’s chaotic in the best possible way.
Hotel We Recommend:
This was one of our favorite hotel discoveries in Taipei because it feels modern without trying too hard.
The rooms are spacious by Taipei standards, the location is excellent, and the vibe feels younger and more relaxed compared to traditional business hotels. After long days exploring the city, coming back here genuinely felt comfortable.
Best for:
- First-time visitors
- Couples
- Food-focused travelers
- Travelers who enjoy nightlife and convenience
Xinyi District — Best for Luxury & Modern Taipei

If you imagine Taipei as futuristic skylines, rooftop bars, luxury shopping, and modern city energy, this is the area you’re thinking of.
Xinyi feels polished and international. Taipei 101 dominates the skyline, and the entire district feels incredibly clean, modern, and walkable.
At night, the area becomes even more beautiful with illuminated buildings and lively restaurants everywhere.
This is where we’d stay if the goal was:
- comfort
- upscale dining
- shopping
- skyline views
- premium hotels
Hotel We Recommend:
Yes, it’s famous.
And yes — it’s worth it.
The location beside Taipei 101 is unbeatable, but what stood out most to us was how convenient everything felt. You can walk almost everywhere in Xinyi, and the MRT access makes exploring the rest of Taipei easy too.
The rooms feel luxurious without feeling overly formal, and some rooms have incredible Taipei 101 views.
Best for:
- Luxury travelers
- Business travelers
- Couples
- Short premium city breaks
Da’an District — Best for Cafés, Food & Local Lifestyle

Da’an ended up becoming one of our favorite parts of Taipei.
It feels calmer, greener, and more local compared to Ximending or Xinyi. The streets are lined with cafés, bookstores, brunch spots, boutique stores, and quiet residential lanes that make you slow down naturally.
This is the Taipei we found ourselves enjoying the most during slower mornings.
You don’t stay here for huge attractions.
You stay here because the neighborhood itself feels good.
Hotel We Recommend:
This hotel perfectly matches the atmosphere of the area.
Stylish without feeling flashy, modern but still warm and personal. The design feels thoughtful, and the service is the kind that quietly improves your stay without being overbearing.
One thing we really loved:
Even though the hotel feels peaceful, you’re still very connected to the MRT and major attractions.
Best for:
- Couples
- Café lovers
- Longer stays
- Travelers who prefer local neighborhoods
Zhongzheng District — Best for Sightseeing & MRT Convenience

If your plan is to explore a lot of Taipei efficiently, Zhongzheng is a very smart choice.
This area is close to:
- Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall
- Taipei Main Station
- museums
- transport connections
It’s less flashy than Xinyi and less energetic than Ximending, but extremely practical.
This is probably the best area for travelers who value convenience over atmosphere.
Hotel We Recommend:
Hotel Resonance Taipei, Tapestry Collection by Hilton
This hotel surprised us.
It feels modern, clean, and much more premium than its pricing suggests. The rooms are minimalist and comfortable, and the MRT access nearby makes city exploration incredibly easy.
Best for:
- Efficient travelers
- Solo travelers
- Short city stays
- Travelers using trains frequently
Beitou — Best for Hot Springs & Relaxation

Most travelers stay in central Taipei the entire trip, but honestly, spending even one or two nights in Beitou completely changes the experience.
The atmosphere here feels slower, greener, and more peaceful. Instead of skyscrapers and crowds, you get hot spring resorts, steam rising from thermal valleys, and mountain surroundings.
It barely feels like the same city.
Hotel We Recommend:
If you want a proper hot spring experience in Taipei, this is the one.
Private hot spring baths, mountain views, incredible service, and an atmosphere that feels genuinely relaxing after days of walking around the city.
It’s expensive compared to central Taipei hotels, but it feels like an experience rather than just accommodation.
Best for:
- Relaxation
- Honeymoon trips
- Luxury escapes
- Couples
Dadaocheng / Datong — Best for Culture & Old Taipei Charm

This area became one of the biggest surprises for us.
Dadaocheng feels historic, creative, and deeply connected to Taipei’s older identity. Walking through Dihua Street at sunset, browsing tea shops and traditional stores, felt completely different from the modern parts of the city.
If you enjoy slower travel and cultural neighborhoods, this area is incredibly rewarding.
Hotel We Recommend:
A very solid boutique-style option near the historic districts.
It’s comfortable, stylish enough without being overpriced, and well-positioned for exploring Dihua Street, local cafés, and riverside areas.
Best for:
- Culture-focused travelers
- Slower travel style
- Boutique hotel lovers
- Photography-focused trips
Final Thoughts from Travey Club
The best part about Taipei is that no matter where you stay, the city is incredibly easy to explore thanks to the MRT system.
But choosing the right area changes the feeling of your trip entirely.
If we had to summarize it simply:
- Ximending → best overall for first-timers
- Xinyi → best for luxury and skyline views
- Da’an → best lifestyle neighborhood
- Zhongzheng → best for convenience
- Beitou → best for relaxation
- Dadaocheng → best for culture and heritage
Our honest recommendation?
For most first-time travelers:
Stay in Ximending or Da’an.
They offer the best balance of atmosphere, food, convenience, and genuine Taipei energy.
