Top Things to Do in Sapa, Vietnam — A Travey Club Experience
There’s something about Sapa that doesn’t quite translate through photos. You can scroll through endless shots of rice terraces and misty mountains, but being there feels completely different — quieter, deeper, almost surreal.
When we at Travey Club finally made the trip, it wasn’t just about ticking off another destination. It felt like stepping into a slower version of the world.
Here’s what stayed with us the most.
Trek Through the Rice Terraces (And Actually Take Your Time)

Everyone talks about trekking in Sapa — and yes, it is the main thing to do — but what surprised us wasn’t the scenery (which is incredible), it was the rhythm of it.
Walking from Lao Chai to Ta Van, you don’t rush. You pass water buffalo, kids playing in the mud, women weaving fabrics outside wooden homes. At some point, you stop thinking about “where next” and just enjoy where you are.
We remember pausing halfway, surrounded by layered green hills, with nothing but wind and distant chatter. That moment alone made the trip worth it.
If you do one thing in Sapa, make it this — and go with a local guide if you can. It adds so much context.
Take the Fansipan Cable Car (Even if You’re Not a “Touristy” Person)

We almost skipped this. It felt a bit too “popular.” But honestly? We’re glad we didn’t.
The Fansipan cable car takes you above clouds — literally. One minute you’re in town, the next you’re floating over valleys that look untouched.
At the top, there’s a quiet moment (if you walk a bit away from the crowd) where the mountains stretch endlessly. It’s one of those places that makes you feel small in a good way.
Stay in a Local Homestay

Hotels in Sapa are comfortable, sure. But the real experience starts when you leave town.
We stayed in a small homestay in Ta Van, and it completely changed how we saw the place. Dinner was cooked over fire, conversations were simple (lots of smiles and gestures), and mornings started with fog rolling over the hills.
It’s not polished — and that’s exactly why it’s memorable.
Wake Up to the Mist (Even If You See Nothing)

Sapa is famous for its fog. And yes, sometimes it hides everything.
But here’s the thing — that mist creates a mood you won’t get anywhere else. Early mornings feel almost cinematic. You sip coffee, look out at what might be a mountain, and just sit with it.
It forces you to slow down, whether you like it or not.
Wander Around Sapa Town (Without a Plan)

Sapa town itself isn’t the highlight — but it’s still worth exploring casually.
We spent an evening walking around:
- grabbing grilled street food
- stopping by small local shops
- sitting near Sapa Lake watching the lights reflect on the water
It’s simple, but it balances out the more adventurous parts of the trip.
Find a Café With a View and Stay Longer Than You Planned

One of our favorite memories? Doing absolutely nothing.
Sapa has plenty of cafés overlooking the valleys. We picked one randomly, ordered coffee, and ended up staying for hours. No agenda, no rush.
Sometimes travel isn’t about doing more — it’s about letting a place settle into you.
Final Thoughts from Travey Club
Sapa isn’t perfect. The weather can be unpredictable, the town can feel a bit busy at times — but none of that really matters once you step outside and start exploring.
What makes Sapa special isn’t just what you see — it’s how it makes you slow down, notice small things, and disconnect without trying too hard.
If you’re planning a trip through Vietnam, don’t rush this part. Give it a few days. Let it unfold naturally.
You’ll leave with more than just photos — and that’s kind of the point.
