Mumbai in 3 Days: The Travey Club Signature Itinerary
Mumbai is not the kind of city you fully understand in one visit.
Honestly, we don’t even think you fully understand it in one week.
But if you have three days here, you can absolutely experience the side of Mumbai that makes people fall in love with it — the sea views, the food, the old architecture, the late evenings, the local chaos, the unexpected calm moments, and the energy that somehow never slows down.
When we designed our Mumbai Signature Itinerary, we didn’t want it to feel rushed or overly “touristy.” We wanted it to feel like you were gradually discovering different layers of the city instead of simply checking attractions off a list.
And after spending time exploring Mumbai ourselves, this is honestly the route we’d recommend to almost anyone visiting for the first time.
First Things First — Where Should You Stay?

If your goal is easy access to most major attractions, restaurants, heritage areas, and day tours:
Stay in Colaba
We genuinely think this is the best base for a first-time Mumbai trip.
Why?
Because Mumbai traffic is very real.
And Colaba keeps you close to:
- Gateway of India
- Kala Ghoda
- Marine Drive
- Fort Area
- Ferry for Elephanta Caves
- Iconic cafés and restaurants
You can walk to many places, which becomes a huge advantage in Mumbai.
Where We’d Personally Stay:
It’s centrally located, stylish, walkable, and works perfectly for a 3-day itinerary where you’ll constantly be moving around South Mumbai.
After long days exploring, coming back to Colaba always felt convenient.
Day 1 — Discover the Soul of South Mumbai

The first day is all about easing into the city slowly.
After arriving in Mumbai, we’d recommend starting with a walk through Colaba Causeway instead of immediately rushing into sightseeing. The street itself feels like an introduction to Mumbai — chaotic, colorful, crowded, and full of character.
You’ll pass:
- local shops
- old colonial buildings
- cafés
- street vendors
- random hidden corners that somehow become memorable later
And honestly, some of our favorite moments in Mumbai happened while simply walking without much of a plan.
Stop for Lunch at Leopold Café
Yes, it’s famous.
And yes, it’s worth it.
There’s something about the atmosphere here that still feels deeply connected to Mumbai’s history. It’s loud, busy, slightly chaotic, and somehow comforting at the same time.
After lunch, spend the evening exploring:
- CST Station
- Fort Area
- Kala Ghoda
This part of Mumbai feels completely different from the modern city most people expect. The architecture, cafés, galleries, and slower pace make it one of the most enjoyable areas to wander around.
End the night with dinner at:
Khyber Restaurant
The kebabs and North Indian food here were honestly one of the highlights of our trip.
Day 2 — Experience the Real Mumbai

This day starts early.
And trust us — it’s worth waking up for.
Start with a Mumbai Bicycle Tour
This unexpectedly became one of our favorite experiences in the city.
Mumbai in the early morning feels softer and calmer before the traffic and noise fully take over. Cycling past Marine Drive while the city slowly wakes up gives you a completely different perspective of Mumbai.
The route usually covers:
- Gateway of India
- CST
- Crawford Market
- Sassoon Dock
- Marine Drive
It’s one of the best ways to experience both the famous and local sides of the city together.
Afternoon: Dharavi Tour
Before visiting Dharavi, we weren’t entirely sure what to expect.
But the experience turned out to be much more human, inspiring, and eye-opening than we anticipated.
What most travelers don’t realize is how entrepreneurial and hardworking the community is. Small industries, workshops, recycling units, leather businesses — there’s constant activity everywhere.
It gives you a much deeper understanding of Mumbai beyond the luxury hotels and tourist attractions.
Evening: Sunset in Bandra
After the intensity of the day, Bandra feels like a breath of fresh air.
Spend the evening at:
- Bandra Fort
- Bandstand Promenade
- Sea Link viewpoint
Watching the sunset here with the sea breeze, locals jogging along the promenade, and the skyline slowly lighting up became one of our favorite moments in Mumbai.
End the evening with dinner somewhere around Pali Hill or Bandra West.
The café culture here feels completely different from South Mumbai — more modern, creative, and relaxed.
Day 3 — Sea Views, Heritage & A Slower Goodbye

By Day 3, Mumbai starts feeling slightly more familiar.
And this day is intentionally slower.
Start with Elephanta Caves
The ferry ride itself is part of the experience.
As the Mumbai skyline slowly disappears behind you, the city suddenly feels quieter. Once you reach Elephanta Island, the atmosphere changes completely — ancient caves, rock-cut sculptures, monkeys wandering around, and sea breeze everywhere.
It’s one of the few experiences where Mumbai briefly feels calm.
Lunch & Walk Around Kala Ghoda
After returning, head back toward Kala Ghoda for a relaxed lunch.
This area is perfect for your final afternoon because it lets you slow down:
- cafés
- galleries
- bookstores
- heritage buildings
- quiet lanes
No rushing.
No pressure.
Just wandering.
End the Trip at Malabar Hill
This is where we’d recommend ending your Mumbai trip.
As sunset approaches, head toward:
- Hanging Gardens
- Kamala Nehru Park
- Marine Drive viewpoints
Watching the lights slowly appear along the Queen’s Necklace while the sea breeze hits the city one last time feels like the perfect Mumbai goodbye.
And somehow, by this point, the city no longer feels overwhelming.
It just feels unforgettable.
Final Thoughts
Mumbai is not a city that tries to impress you gently.
It’s loud.
Fast.
Emotional.
Exhausting.
Beautiful.
And somehow, all of those things exist together at the same time.
What makes this itinerary special isn’t just the attractions — it’s the balance between iconic places and real experiences. Between heritage and modern life. Between crowded streets and peaceful sea views.
And honestly, somewhere between the bicycle rides, late-night dinners, ferry rides, café stops, and sunset walks, Mumbai slowly starts feeling less like a city and more like an experience you carry with you afterward.
That’s the version of Mumbai we wanted this Signature Itinerary to capture.
