Delhi in 3 Days: The Travey Club Signature Itinerary
Delhi wasn’t a city we instantly fell in love with.
At first, it felt overwhelming — the traffic, the noise, the constant movement, the endless contrast between old and new. But after spending a few days exploring the city properly, we realized that’s exactly what makes Delhi unforgettable.
One minute you’re standing inside a centuries-old Mughal monument, and the next you’re drinking coffee in a modern café surrounded by young locals and busy markets. Delhi somehow feels historic, chaotic, stylish, exhausting, and exciting all at once.
If you only have 3 days in the city, this is the route we’d personally recommend. It gives you a mix of history, food, culture, local neighborhoods, and modern Delhi without trying to rush through everything.
This is our Travey Club Signature Delhi Itinerary — balanced, realistic, and designed for travelers who want to actually experience the city rather than just tick off landmarks.
Where to Stay for Easy Access to Everything

If you want the easiest base for exploring Delhi, we’d strongly recommend staying in Connaught Place.
After trying different parts of the city, this area simply made the most sense:
- Central location
- Easy metro access
- Great restaurants
- Walkable in the evenings
- Reasonable travel times to both Old and South Delhi
Most importantly, after long days of sightseeing, it felt comfortable returning somewhere lively but still manageable.
Recommended Stay:
The Connaught, New Delhi – IHCL SeleQtions
A great balance between comfort, location, and accessibility. It became the perfect base for moving around the city without spending hours stuck in traffic.
Day 1 — Delhi’s Historic Side

We’d start the trip with Delhi’s iconic landmarks because it gives you a strong introduction to the city’s history and scale.
Morning: India Gate, Humayun’s Tomb & Qutub Minar
The first morning is all about understanding Delhi’s layers of history.
Start with:
- India Gate for a quick introduction to New Delhi
- Humayun’s Tomb for Mughal architecture
- Qutub Minar for one of the city’s most impressive historical sites
Out of all three, Humayun’s Tomb surprised us the most. The gardens are peaceful, the architecture is stunning, and it feels far calmer than many other attractions in the city.
Qutub Minar, on the other hand, is all about scale. Standing beneath it feels surreal.
Afternoon: Lodhi Garden & Slow Lunch
After a busy morning, Delhi can start to feel intense — which is why Lodhi Garden works perfectly here.
The atmosphere completely changes:
- quieter streets
- greenery
- locals walking and relaxing
We stopped for lunch at Lodi – The Garden Restaurant, and honestly, it ended up being one of the most relaxing meals of the trip.
Evening: Connaught Place
Spend your evening walking around Connaught Place.
This area feels like modern Delhi:
- cafés
- bookstores
- restaurants
- colonial architecture
- nightlife
For dinner, we’d recommend Farzi Café if you want something modern and fun. Their take on Indian fusion food feels creative without trying too hard.
Day 2 — Old Delhi & Street Food

This was probably our favorite day.
Old Delhi feels completely different from the rest of the city. It’s louder, more chaotic, more crowded — but also more memorable.
Morning: Jama Masjid
Start early before the streets become too busy.
Jama Masjid is one of those places where you can really feel the history around you. Climbing the minaret gives you incredible views over Old Delhi’s rooftops and markets.
Mid-Morning: Chandni Chowk Rickshaw Ride
This is where Delhi becomes sensory overload in the best possible way.
The streets are packed with:
- spice markets
- food stalls
- tiny shops
- rickshaws
- crowds moving in every direction
Taking a cycle rickshaw through Chandni Chowk ended up being one of the most memorable experiences of the trip.
It feels chaotic at first — but after a while, you start enjoying the energy.
Lunch: Karim’s
You can’t spend time around Jama Masjid and skip Karim’s.
The restaurant is crowded, noisy, slightly chaotic — and completely worth it.
We’d recommend:
- kebabs
- butter chicken
- naan
- biryani
This was easily one of the best meals we had in Delhi.
Afternoon: Red Fort & Khan Market
After Old Delhi, head toward the Red Fort before ending the day somewhere calmer.
By evening, we loved slowing things down at Khan Market:
- cafés
- bookstores
- boutiques
- relaxed atmosphere
It’s a nice contrast after the intensity of Old Delhi.
For dinner, Big Chill Café is always a safe choice if you want comfort food and a slower evening.
Day 3 — Modern Delhi & Culture

The final day is about seeing a softer, more modern side of Delhi.
Morning: Lotus Temple
The Lotus Temple feels peaceful in a way that’s rare in Delhi.
The architecture is beautiful, but what stood out most was the silence inside. After two busy days, it’s a surprisingly calming experience.
Midday: Dilli Haat
Dilli Haat ended up being one of our favorite places for casual exploring.
You’ll find:
- handicrafts
- textiles
- souvenirs
- regional Indian food
It feels cultural without feeling overly touristy.
We’d definitely recommend trying food from multiple stalls rather than sticking to one place.
Afternoon: Hauz Khas Village
Hauz Khas gives you a completely different version of Delhi.
Historic ruins sit beside:
- trendy cafés
- rooftop restaurants
- boutiques
- art spaces
We spent hours just wandering around the lake and stopping into cafés.
It’s one of the few parts of Delhi that feels genuinely slow-paced.
Evening: Akshardham Temple
Ending the trip at Akshardham felt perfect.
The temple complex is massive, beautifully detailed, and incredibly well organized. The evening light and water show especially stood out as one of the most unique experiences of the trip.
It’s touristy, yes — but honestly, it’s worth it.
Final Thoughts
Delhi isn’t always easy.
Some moments feel exhausting. Some places feel overwhelming. But that’s also what makes the city so memorable.
What we loved most about Delhi was the contrast:
- ancient history beside modern cafés
- chaotic markets beside peaceful gardens
- luxury hotels beside tiny street food stalls
No two parts of the city feel the same.
And honestly, if you give Delhi a little time and patience, it slowly becomes one of the most rewarding cities to explore in India.
