A 4-Day Hoi An & Da Nang Itinerary – How We Spent the Perfect Long Weekend (By Travey Club)
When the Travey Club team planned a short trip to Central Vietnam, we originally thought three days would be enough to explore Hoi An and Da Nang. But once we arrived, we quickly realised there was more to see than we expected.
From lantern-lit streets and peaceful rice fields to mountain viewpoints and iconic bridges, the region offers an incredible mix of culture, nature, and food. Adding just one extra day allowed us to slow down and include one of the most famous attractions near Da Nang — the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills.
If you're planning a trip, here’s how we would spend four memorable days exploring Hoi An and Da Nang.
Where to Stay for Easy Access

Before getting into the itinerary, the first thing we realised was that location matters.
After exploring the area, our recommendation would be to stay near Hoi An Ancient Town.
Why?
- It’s the heart of the region’s culture and atmosphere
- Most of the best restaurants and cafés are here
- The lantern-lit streets are best experienced at night
- The beach is only 10–15 minutes away
- Da Nang is just a 40-minute drive
Being able to walk into Old Town every evening ended up being one of our favourite parts of the trip.
Great hotel for location:
Allegro Hoi An – A Little Luxury Hotel & Spa
It’s close enough to the Old Town to walk everywhere, but just far enough away to feel peaceful after a busy day of exploring.
Day 1 – Discover the Magic of Hoi An

Our first day was all about soaking in the atmosphere of Hoi An Ancient Town.
The best way to experience this place is simply by walking. The streets are lined with yellow colonial buildings, small tailor shops, lantern stalls, and hidden cafés.
What we explored
- Japanese Covered Bridge – one of Hoi An’s most famous landmarks
- Tan Ky Ancient House – a glimpse into the town’s trading history
- Hoi An Central Market – a lively place filled with food stalls and local produce
One of the best parts of wandering through the town is that every corner seems to reveal something new.
Evening in Hoi An
As the sun set, the entire Old Town transformed.
Lanterns lit up across the streets and reflected beautifully along the Thu Bon River. We grabbed a small boat ride and released floating lanterns onto the water — one of those moments that feels surprisingly peaceful despite the crowds.
Dinner that night was simple street food by the river, which somehow made the evening even better.
Day 2 – Beaches and Countryside

After a busy first day exploring the Old Town, we slowed things down on day two.
Morning: An Bang Beach
We started the morning with a short drive to An Bang Beach, about 15 minutes from Hoi An.
The beach here feels relaxed and not overly developed. We spent the morning swimming, walking along the sand, and drinking iced Vietnamese coffee at a beachfront café.
Afternoon: Cycling Through Rice Fields
In the afternoon, we rented bicycles and rode toward Tra Que Vegetable Village.
This was easily one of the most peaceful parts of the trip. Within minutes, the busy streets disappeared and were replaced by rice paddies, quiet farm roads, and water buffalo grazing in the fields.
It’s a beautiful way to see a different side of Hoi An that many travellers miss.
Evening: Food & Night Market
Back in Old Town, we spent the evening exploring the Hoi An Night Market.
Between lantern stalls, street food, and riverside cafés, it’s hard not to get caught up in the energy of the place.
Day 3 – A Day Trip to Da Nang

On day three, we took a short trip to Da Nang, which offers a completely different vibe compared to Hoi An.
Morning: Marble Mountains
Our first stop was the Marble Mountains, a cluster of limestone hills filled with caves, temples, and scenic viewpoints.
Climbing to the top rewards you with incredible views of the coastline and city below. Inside the caves, sunlight filters through openings in the rock, creating an almost mystical atmosphere.
Afternoon: My Khe Beach
After exploring the mountains, we headed to My Khe Beach, one of the most famous beaches in Vietnam.
The beach stretches for miles, and the city skyline behind it creates a really unique setting.
Evening: Dragon Bridge Show
Before heading back to Hoi An, we stopped to see Da Nang’s Dragon Bridge.
On weekend nights, the dragon-shaped bridge actually breathes fire and water, which attracts crowds along the riverbanks. It’s lively, fun, and a great way to end the day.
Day 4 – The Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills

For our final day, we headed to Ba Na Hills, one of the most famous attractions near Da Nang.
The journey starts with a cable car ride that climbs high into the mountains. The cable car itself is an experience — it’s one of the longest in the world and offers incredible views over forests and waterfalls below.
At the top sits the famous Golden Bridge, held up by two giant stone hands emerging from the mountainside.
Seeing it in person feels surprisingly surreal. The bridge stretches above the clouds on some mornings, and the mountain air makes the entire area feel cooler and more refreshing than the cities below.
Ba Na Hills also includes gardens, viewpoints, and a small French-style village, so it’s easy to spend several hours exploring the area.
Our biggest tip: arrive early in the morning before the crowds arrive.
Why Four Days Here Works So Well
What surprised us most about Hoi An and Da Nang is how much variety you can experience in just a few days.
In four days you can explore:
- Historic lantern-lit streets
- Peaceful countryside and rice fields
- Beautiful beaches
- Mountain caves and viewpoints
- One of the world’s most famous bridges
For us at Travey Club, Central Vietnam felt like the perfect balance of culture, relaxation, and adventure.
And if there’s one piece of advice we’d give future travellers, it’s this:
don’t rush it.
Take time to wander the lantern streets, sit in a riverside café, and enjoy the incredible food — because those small moments often become the most memorable parts of the trip.
